How to Save a TikTok Profile Picture in Full Size
Updated · Sizes measured on tiktok.com
A screenshot comes out blurry because your phone is showing a thumbnail: 100 pixels on TikTok's mobile site when we checked, and 282 in the app. The original is up to 1080 by 1080. You can get it from a desktop browser, or from a profile picture downloader on any device.
Every method, compared
| Method | What you get | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot on a phone | The 100 to 282 pixel copy, stretched | Blurry, cropped to a circle, with the app around it. |
| Right-click on tiktok.com, on a computer | The original, up to 1080 by 1080 | Needs a computer. The mobile site serves the small file. |
| Change the size in the image link | An error page | TikTok signs its image links, so an edited link is refused. |
| A profile picture downloader, such as TikViewer's | The original, up to 1080 by 1080, with its size shown first | Public accounts only. |
On a computer: right-click
The desktop version of tiktok.com loads the full file in the profile header, even though it draws it small.
- Open tiktok.com/@username in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge.
- Right-click the profile picture at the top and choose Open image in new tab. The tab shows the original at its real size.
- Right-click it again and choose Save image as.
If the menu does not offer the image, open the developer tools (Ctrl+Shift+I, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), pick the picture with the element selector, and open the link in its src.
On a phone: use a profile picture downloader
On a phone, the mobile site serves the small file and there is no right-click, so the short way is a tool that reads the full one for you. With TikViewer's PFP downloader:
- Type the username, with or without the @.
- Check the size printed beside the picture. It is measured from the file, so you know what you are saving before you save it.
- Tap Download HD picture. It saves as a JPG with no watermark and no crop.
It is free and needs no account, TikTok or ours. Your browser fetches the image straight from TikTok's servers, so no copy passes through us.
Why editing the image link no longer works
Some guides tell you to copy the picture's link and change the size in it, from 100:100 to 1080:1080. TikTok's image links now end in a signature, and an edited link no longer matches it: when we tried, the server answered 403 Forbidden, and the same link with the signature removed was refused too. The large file is only reachable through a link TikTok signed for that size, which is what the desktop site and a downloader both use.
What no method can do
- Make a picture larger or sharper than the creator uploaded it. Anything bigger than the original is an upscale, not more detail.
- Get the picture of an account that has been deleted.
- Give you the right to reuse it. The picture belongs to whoever made it; keeping a copy for yourself is one thing, putting it in something you publish or sell needs their permission.
Questions
Why is my screenshot of a TikTok profile picture blurry?
Because the phone is showing you a thumbnail. In our check, TikTok's mobile site drew a 100 by 100 pixel file and stretched it to fill the circle, so a screenshot captures a small image blown up, cropped round, with the app around it.
What is the largest size of a TikTok profile picture?
1080 by 1080 pixels. That is the cap in TikTok's own image links. A picture uploaded smaller stays smaller; nothing makes it sharper than the original.
Will they know if I save their profile picture?
Saving the image sends TikTok nothing. Opening their profile while signed in is different: it can show up in their profile views, if you both have profile view history turned on.
