Can People See If You View Their TikTok Story?

Updated · Checked against TikTok's Help Center

Yes, if you watch it while signed in to TikTok. The creator can see every account that watched their Story, and TikTok's own help page says that holds even if your account is private or your profile view history is turned off. Source: TikTok Help Center, Watching Stories.

What the creator sees

A Story stays up for 24 hours. While it is up, the person who posted it can open it in the app, see the total number of views at the bottom, and swipe up for the list of accounts that watched. In TikTok's words: “You can see the total number of Story views you receive, as well as the accounts that watched it.” Source: TikTok Help Center, TikTok Stories.

A creator can also keep a Story past 24 hours by adding it to a Highlight on their profile, so a Story you think has expired may still be there.

Settings that do not hide a Story view

TikTok keeps three separate view lists, and the settings people reach for only touch the other two.

Ways to watch, and whether you show up

A second accountYes, the second accountIt still shows a name. If they recognise it, it is no different from your own.
A friend screen-records itYes, your friend's accountYou depend on someone else, and you get a re-recording rather than the original video.
A viewer site that asks for your TikTok loginYes, your accountIt is your account doing the watching, and you have handed a stranger your password.
A viewer that never signs in, such as TikViewerNo. There is no account to listPublic accounts only, and only Stories that are still up.

The viewer list is made of accounts. A view that is not tied to any TikTok account has nothing to put on it, which is why the last row is the only one that keeps you off it.

What a story viewer cannot do

  • Show Stories from a private account. Only public profiles are reachable, by any tool.
  • Bring back a Story after its 24 hours, unless the creator saved it to a Highlight.
  • Tell you who viewed someone else's Story.
  • Anything that needs a password. A viewer that asks for one is not anonymous.

What TikViewer keeps

Watching Stories is free and needs no account. Saving one is free too: twenty a day without an account, no cap once you sign in. Credits only come in for bulk jobs, like packing a whole day of Stories into one archive.

We do not keep a record of who you look up. The profile data is cached under the TikTok handle, never under you, for six to twenty-four hours, and Stories stream straight from TikTok's servers. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

How we checked

We read TikTok's Help Center pages on posting Stories, watching Stories, profile view history and post view history on October 12, 2026, and quoted them above. TikTok changes these features, so if a help page now says something different, the help page is right. TikViewer is independent and not affiliated with TikTok.

Questions

If my account is private, can people see I viewed their story?

Yes. TikTok's help page says people can see you viewed their Story even if your account is private. A private account limits who sees your own posts, not who sees your views.

Does turning off profile view history hide my story views?

No. It only hides your visits to profiles, and only from accounts that also have the setting on. Story views are a separate list, and TikTok says that setting does not affect it.

Can I see who viewed someone else's story?

No. The viewer list is shown only to the person who posted the Story, inside the TikTok app. No outside tool can read it, whatever it claims.
